Xiaomi 14 review, price and specifications

Xiaomi 14

If you’re a fan of ours, you’ll notice that the Xiaomi 13 is featured in many of our videos. Yes, I really love this phone and have been using it ever since it went on sale. I can be sure of one thing: no one knows Xiaomi 13 better than me. As a reviewer and deep user of Xiaomi 13, I am sure that Xiaomi 14 is the best choice for small phone lovers, if you can live with its design.

where to buy
Buy Xiaomi 14 from @ Giztop

I have always believed in this idea – if something needs to be transported, it should be as small as possible. For example, iPad mini 6, 33W pocket power bank, 65W PD charger and even the cables I use are 50cm long. They are not only small but also very powerful, so I like Xiaomi 14 very much.

Xiaomi 14 is not a small phone. But of the 200 new phones released last year, less than five were smaller than the Xiaomi 13. So it makes sense to say that the 6.3-inch Xiaomi 14 is a small phone.

Although I said it in the unboxing video, I’ll say it again: the IR transmitter on the top of the Xiaomi 14 has not been removed, but moved to the camera module. When you first enter the Mi Remote app, it shows a really stupid position to control the device. The good news is that it can actually be controlled in normal mode, so there’s no need to learn that weird mode.

The vibration motor 14 has also been enlarged for a sharper feeling when typing. And yes, even the 14th standard now uses USB 3.0. RIP USB 2.0.

Designing

The biggest regret of this phone is its appearance. Look at the camera module, if Xiaomi 12 and 13 were a step back, then 14 is a run back. If you’ve ever seen or used a budget phone, you’ll be familiar with the design: the flash pretends to be a camera and stays where it shouldn’t be, and the LEICA logo is surrounded by three cameras. I would never, ever buy this phone if it’s specs and vlogs weren’t really a huge improvement.

UltraSpace

There is an interesting bonus feature called “UltraSpace”. This is actually a technique that reduces the amount of space over-provisioning and increases the storage space available to the user. While this theoretically shortens the life of UFS, Xiaomi’s software manager says that even if you copy 40GB of data per day, it will last 10 years or more. Xiaomi has made a bet that no one can use the phone for more than 10 years, so this is what they want to do.

When I say cool, I don’t mean the technology is innovative, but the fact that you have to buy a special edition to get this feature. If you’re like me and accidentally bought the 256G storage version of the Xiaomi 14, then this bonus feature isn’t for you.

screen

The Xiaomi 14 Standard Edition still uses the same flat screen that everyone loves. This panel comes from TCL’s latest model, the C8. The most obvious thing to note is the increase in resolution, and the improved resolution that comes with the 1200P is good news for literature lovers.

One thing you need to know is that if you want to use DC dimming at any brightness level, you need to turn on Anti-Flicker mode to enable it. If you don’t turn it on, it will dim just like the Xiaomi 13 on DC at high brightness and 480Hz PWM at low brightness.

There are also some software improvements in lighting. For example, the maximum manual brightness in the past was only 500 nits, this time the new Sunlight mode allows you to manually set the maximum brightness to 670 nits, which can be close to 1000 nits under intense light stimulation. As for the 3000nit they say, it’s only achievable with a 10% window of HDR video under intense light stimulation. So the 3000nit maximum brightness is more of a gimmick unless you often watch HDR videos in the sun.

There are no obvious defects in the screen. It would be nice to be able to move the fingerprint recognition area up a bit.

Benchmark and gaming

Snapdragon 8 generation 3 is the best phone chip. I didn’t expect the 8 Gen 3 to improve so much when last year’s 8 Gen 2 was so strong. You can clearly see that the 8 Gen 3 scored the best in several categories. Xiaomi 14 also excelled in stability tests. I’m pretty sure this is the most powerful processor I’ve ever seen on a phone.

Now let’s see how it works in games. Since PUBG Mobile does not require a high load, even the Xiaomi 13 is able to easily run 90 fps. Do you think this is a high limit? No. Take a look at the Xiaomi 14 chart. I’ll admit, the straightest line I’ve ever seen in my life is this Xiaomi 14 PUBG framerate graph, it’s really cool. Energy consumption and temperature are lower, which indicates that the new Snapdragon chip copes much more easily with low-load applications.

Genshin Impact’s results aren’t as impressive as PUBG Mobile’s, but they’re still much better than other 8G 2 phones. At the same 720p resolution, it started to downclock after only 15 minutes of playing on Fontaine, and after the downclock, the frame rate did not drop much. And when you look at its power consumption, it’s still the lowest. With such a great gaming experience actually realized in a smaller phone, I’m looking forward to seeing if the gaming experience on the bigger Xiaomi 14 Pro will be any better.

Previous Xiaomi phones could run Genshin at 864P resolution, but this time, the Xiaomi 14 can even run at 1200P resolution. Look at the characters, and how vivid they are. Unfortunately, the framerate is limited to 30 at this resolution, so when is Xiaomi going to open up the 60fps option? I think 8 Gen 3 can go even higher.

32 bit

Anyway, this year’s 8th generation 3 no longer supports 32-bit software in terms of hardware. While I agree that 32-bit apps really should be removed, it’s inevitable that some people will still need to use them. Xiaomi will help you convert 32-bit APP to 64-bit by software so that you can continue to use these old apps.

If you have a Xiaomi 14 and still can’t install some old apps, it’s mostly because Android 14 OS doesn’t support and HyperOS doesn’t support targetSdkVersion below 23. It has nothing to do with the eighth generation 3. Due to time constraints, we didn’t talk much about Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Camera

There is a trivia about the Leica mode on Xiaomi phones: the Leica colors are actually different for each model. In the Xiaomi 13 series, the 13 Ultra has the most attractive authentic Leica colors, while the Standard 13 is the worst. The Xiaomi 14 isn’t as good as the Leica 13 Ultra, but it’s still a lot better than the 13. Colors are much more intense, contrast is higher, and there are more options to choose from in Pro mode.

The possibility of freely adjusting the sounds makes the movie more cinematic. In addition, all the flaws I mentioned in the 13 Ultra camera test are actually fixed in the standard version of the 14. For example, metering priority can be set to average, so you don’t suddenly increase the exposure as a face is detected. This makes photographers like me very happy.

The Light Hunter 900 is a new sensor customized by Xiaomi and OmniVision, and its main selling point is its excellent single-frame dynamic range. Unfortunately, it is not very noticeable and it only looks a little better at night in automatic mode than other phones. In dynamic range, I love its 2x zoom performance. Thanks to the increased size of single pixels, you can get sharper photos in low light. After testing hundreds of photos, I found that the improvement of the main camera was not that great. The other two camera enhancements are much more impressive.

Image quality is improved all around thanks to a better sensor. Sharpness, noise and color accuracy are much better than 13. I don’t need to tell you much, just look at the sample photos to see the difference between them.

The telephoto camera on the Xiaomi 14 is the same as the 13 Pro, and the closest focusing distance is only 10cm. You can take macro photos with it and the bokeh background will be even better than the photos taken with the ultra-wide camera. If, like me, you are tired of the rear camera of the Xiaomi 13, switching to the 14 would be a good option.

front camera

I usually don’t talk much about the front camera of a Xiaomi phone because they never pay much attention to the front camera. But this time they have changed. Xiaomi 14 has improved the portraits and the changes are mainly in the skin tone. Skin colors look healthier than the Xiaomi 13 and the clarity is improved.

Most importantly, the front camera will finally be capable of 4K 60fps video recording with EIS support.

Video from the rear camera is also good. It’s stable, transparent and works well like most flagship phones. This time in 4K 30fps video recording, you can freely switch between three cameras.

Battery and charging

The power of Xiaomi 14 wired charging is 90 watts. While that sounds like a big upgrade, it’s actually not that noticeable. The charging protocol has not changed much and is still a USB-A port. Since the front-facing camera, USB transfer speeds, and ultra-wide camera have all gotten better, I mean, why not add a USB-C port to the charger next?

Battery life is also slightly improved. Since the battery capacity is larger and the processor is more efficient, it makes sense that the battery life will be better. Please don’t expect too much though, it’s only a 6.3-inch phone.

Here’s how much my phone used on the day I ran the camera test, which lasted 11 hours at 90% power. Since the camera is so powerful, it doesn’t seem as efficient as I thought it would be. But trust me, it has enough battery to last a day with daily use.

HyperOS

As we mentioned earlier, I need to talk to you about HyperOS right now, but in order to post this video asap, there is not much time to dive into it. So I won’t talk too much about the new system for now.

All I want to say is that GMS works fine on Xiaomi 14 and Telegram installs without any problems, so no need to worry about banning some software. More about the differences between HyperOS and MIUI, we are going to do another video for that.

Summary

To me, Xiaomi 14 is like a young man growing up, no longer handsome, but becoming more mature. The screen, camera and processor have been upgraded and the issues we complained about earlier have been fixed. Plus the small size gives it a unique advantage. The only cost is that you have to live with the not-so-pretty design.

Anyway, I need to connect my sim card to this phone. I agree, Xiaomi 14 is very powerful.

Samsung Q80A TV

Screen Mirroring is a technology that allows the screen of your phone to be transferred to the TV screen as it is so that you can view the content on the big screen. The SmartThings app and Smart View feature allow you to quickly and easily connect to your Samsung Smart TV.

To wirelessly connect your phone screen to your TV, your TV needs a Wi-Fi connection. For non-smart TVs, connecting via cable will be an easy and practical method that we will explain below.

Connecting Samsung phone to Samsung TV with Smart View

With the Smart View feature, you can view your phone’s screen wirelessly on a large TV screen. Follow the steps below to use Smart View on your Samsung phone:

  • First of all, make sure your phone and TV are connected to a Wi-Fi network and VPN is not connected.

The device menus may be different depending on the model and software version. Please read the TV manual for more information.

Connecting Samsung phone to Samsung TV with SmartThings application

SmartThings is a remote control application for Samsung products that can be installed on Android phones and iPhone phones. SmartThings enables automatic connection to most Samsung TVs manufactured from 2016 onwards.

  • Connect your Samsung Smart TV and Samsung phone to a Wi-Fi network.
  • Download and install the SmartThings app on your phone. If you already have the SmartThings app installed, update it.
  • Open the SmartThings app.
  • Tap Add Device.
  • All devices in SmartThings will be displayed. If you can’t see your device, make sure it’s turned on. If it still doesn’t show up, try turning it off and on again and restarting the SmartThings app.
  • Select or scan your TV.
  • Tap on the TV name and connect to your phone.
  • Now your TV is connected to SmartThings and you can use your phone as a second remote control for your TV. You can also use Smart View to display photos, videos, and music from your phone.
  • To do this, tap on the name of your connected TV at the top of the application and select More Options or the three-dot icon.
  • Select Mirror Screens (Smart View). Make sure your phone is close to the TV to connect successfully.

Connecting a Samsung phone to a Samsung TV with an HDMI converter

Convert HDMI to USB

If you have trouble connecting wirelessly, you can use an HDMI converter to connect your device to your TV. Original Samsung HDMI converters support devices with USB-C ports.

If you’re using an older device without a USB-C port, you may be able to find a compatible interface cable, but functionality cannot be guaranteed.

  • Connect an HDMI cable to the HDMI converter.
  • Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI port of the TV.
  • Connect the HDMI converter to the USB port of your phone.
  • Turn on the TV and change the input to the HDMI port you are using.

Connecting Samsung phone to Samsung TV with Samsung DeX

  • Swipe your phone down twice to open the quick settings menu. Note that this feature may not be available on some phones.
  • Tap the DeX button to activate this feature.
  • Select DeX on the TV or monitor option.
  • Accept the connection request on the TV.
  • Then follow the instructions on the screen. Once completed, the Samsung DeX screen will appear on the target TV.

Note that the function of this function will be different depending on the type of TV for wireless connection. We recommend using Samsung Smart TVs 2019 or newer.

Connecting a Samsung phone to a Samsung TV using Samsung DeX

With Wi-Fi Direct, you can directly connect your phone to the TV without an existing Wi-Fi network. With this, your favorite images and videos will be displayed on the TV screen. Note that both the TV and phone must have Wi-Fi direct capability for this feature to work.

To check whether the Wi-Fi direct feature is equipped on the TV, go to the settings. Now follow the steps below to use Wi-Fi Direct on Samsung TV:

  • First, open the TV menu to enable Wi-Fi Direct. Then go to Network and Wi-Fi Direct.
  • Now activate the phone’s Wi-Fi Direct. To enable Wi-Fi Direct on your Samsung phone, go to Settings, then Connections, enter the Wi-Fi section, tap the three-dot icon at the top, and enable the Wi-Fi Direct option. After scanning, the phone will display a list of available devices. The name of the phone also appears on the TV.
  • Select the device from the list to start the connection. If a connection request is made by the phone, a message will appear on the TV and vice versa. Accept the request to connect the phone to the TV.

Connecting Samsung phone to LG TV

  • Swipe down on your phone screen and select Smart View.
  • Make sure your TV and phone are both connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Select your TV from the list of available devices.
  • Thus, your phone screen should be reflected on the TV in a few moments.

You can connect your phone to the TV using a USB-C to HDMI converter. The steps are as follows:

  • Connect the USB-C end of the adapter to your phone.
  • Connect the HDMI end to the HDMI port on your TV.
  • Tap “Accept” when the connection request appears on your phone
  • After connecting, your phone screen will be mirrored on the TV screen.

This method is simple and hassle-free to use, especially when wireless options are not available.

Connecting a Samsung phone to a Sony TV

Web browsing with Sony Bravia X90J TV

Fortunately, you can use the same Smart View feature of Samsung phones to connect to Sony TV. Thus, it becomes easy for you to seamlessly connect to any of the devices.

  • Swipe down twice to reveal the Quick Panel.
  • Select the Smart View icon.
  • From there, you should see a list of devices compatible with the display. Click on your Sony TV.
  • You should get a message asking if you are ready to connect. Select “Start Now”.

If your TV does not appear in the list of devices, you need to make sure that the TV is compatible. Note that only Sony Bravia TVs manufactured between 2013-2020 have Screen Mirroring capability.

Connecting a Samsung phone to a Sony TV with a cable

MHL technology provides the possibility of connecting the phone to the Sony TV with a cable. Phones and tablets compatible with this feature can be connected to the TV through an MHL to HDMI cable. If you can’t use wireless to connect your phone to the TV, then a wireless connection and HDMI conversion is another way you will have.

Connecting Samsung phone to Android TV

Snowva SSD-55 55 inch TV from the front view

If you are looking for a wireless connection between your phone and TV, the Smart View feature on Samsung phones is the best way to share data on Android TVs, especially Iranian smart TVs. We have explained the activation method in the above sections.

On the other hand, if your TV is not smart, using cable will help you. As mentioned, you’ll need an HDMI cable and a USB-C to HDMI converter for this. Connect the USB-C end to your phone and then connect an HDMI cable between the converter and your TV. After connecting the converter and cable, the screen of your Samsung phone will appear on the TV.

Connecting a Samsung phone to a TV is not particularly complicated, especially when both devices are in the Android ecosystem. Earlier, we also checked the method of connecting the iPhone to Samsung TV; In addition, you can use the best programs to connect the iPhone to the TV so that more options are available to you.
