A look at the most important features of One UI 6.1, the latest version of Samsung’s custom skin that was unveiled at the same time as the Galaxy S24 series and focused on AI.

One UI 6.1 user interface review; The most complete Android skin

Along with the Galaxy S24 family, Samsung introduced One UI 6.1 based on artificial intelligence; But AI capabilities are not the only features added to the latest version of One UI, and there have been changes in areas such as animations and the lock screen, which we will talk about in detail below.

The sixth version of One UI was previously released with Android 14, which, except for changes in the Quick Settings panel and a few new widgets, did not have many useful and attractive features; But now in version 6.1, we can say that Samsung has probably achieved the most complete Android user interface. Stay with Zoomit by reviewing One UI 6.1.

The initial list of phones that will receive the One UI 6.1 update

Recently and a few months after the release of the Galaxy S24 family, the Koreans finally released the One UI 6.1 update for the Galaxy S23 family; On the other hand, we can expect that the phones that have been updated to One UI 6.0 will also receive version 6.1.

Remaking animations: smoother and faster than ever

One of the most impressive changes made in One UI 6.1 compared to version 6.0 is the animations and the overall speed of the user interface, which we dare to say has become very close to iOS. Samsung engineers have increased the frame rate of animations and removed the background blurring effect when opening and closing apps to improve charging and speed of animations.

Samsung has also improved the background image scaling animations and made it non-linear, which makes app opening and closing animations look even faster than iOS.

All the changes made in the animations have made us not to see lag and delay when opening and closing applications quickly, like in the previous versions of the One UI user interface.

New lock screen and always-on display

The new lock screen in One UI 6.1 allows you to use various widgets on the Lock Screen without using Good Lock extensions. The color of these widgets is adjusted according to the color of the background image, and in general, we can say that their design is very similar to what we have seen before in iOS.

AOD or always-on display, thanks to the new displays of the Galaxy S24 series, can display the background image of the lock screen, which is again a free take on the AOD of iPhone phones; Of course, it is not bad to remind that Samsung had already developed a feature similar to what we see now in One UI 6.1 in the Galaxy S8 series with its Infinity wallpapers.

Super HDR images in the gallery and Instagram

One UI 6.1 super HDR option

Samsung’s new flagships support the Super HDR function, which provides eye-catching images by adjusting the brightness and contrast of colors in dark and bright areas. In One UI 6.1, you can use the Super HDR feature while displaying images in the phone gallery. In addition, thanks to the collaboration between Samsung and Instagram, Samsung flagship phones can now upload and display Super HDR photos directly on Instagram.

Currently, detailed information about the list of devices that support Super HDR has not been released; But considering that Super HDR is probably developed based on Google’s Ultra HDR format; It can be expected that many devices will be able to display these images.

Samsung image processing engine in other applications

After the Instagram application, the support for Samsung’s image processing was added to it in One UI 4.1; Now it is the turn of WhatsApp, TikTok and Snapchat to support these processes; In addition, in One UI 6.1, the aforementioned applications will support professional image stabilization during video recording and Nightography.

Removal of Samsung navigation gestures

In One UI 6.1, Samsung removed its relatively old navigation gestures that divided the lower part of the screen into three separate parts for the Home, Return and Recent keys; The ability to hide the bottom line of the display or Gesture Hint in One UI 6.1 has been removed; Of course, you can still use the three traditional Android keys and there is still the possibility of extensive customization of the navigation section in Good Lock.

Integration of Quick Share and Nearby Share

Thanks to the cooperation of Samsung and Google, the Nearby Share feature has been integrated with Quick Share in the One UI 6.1 update; So when sending all kinds of files, whether between two Samsung devices, or between a Samsung device and other Android phones, users can easily use Quick Share.

It is interesting to know that the Quick Share feature has been released as an application for Windows and this feature will be useful even for sending files to iPhone phones. (Sending for iPhone can be done through QR Code.)

Adaptive Color Tone feature

In the display settings section of the One UI 6.1 user interface, a new Adaptive Color tone option has been added, which adjusts the white balance and colors of the display based on the ambient light. The interesting point of this feature is the use of the selfie camera and rear cameras to analyze the environment around the phone; Although earlier, we saw a similar example in iPhone phones called True Tone, and Adaptive Color tone is not a feature specific to Samsung phones.

New options for battery protection

Previously, the Battery protection feature in Galaxy phones limited the maximum charge of the phone to 85%; But now this feature is available to users in three different modes, which is very practical.

One Ui 6.1 battery protection menu

In Basic mode, when the phone is connected to the charger, the battery will charge up to 100% and the phone will not charge again until the battery percentage drops to 95%. Maximum mode will also limit the battery charge of the phone to 80%.

Adaptive mode also selects the battery protection mode based on the sleep pattern of each user; By detecting the user’s sleeping time, it activates the maximum protection mode and changes the battery protection to the basic mode as soon as the user wakes up; Therefore, the Adaptive mode of battery protection will be very useful for users who connect their phone to the charger while sleeping.

Galaxy AI

In One UI 6.1, Samsung has combined its user interface with a bunch of features that rely on artificial intelligence, which is called Galaxy AI. It is likely that some AI features will remain exclusive to the Galaxy S24 series; But according to Samsung, most of them will be released for the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Tab S9 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5.

Considering that some functions of Galaxy AI are performed on Samsung’s servers and in the cloud, Samsung has decided to charge a separate fee for providing artificial intelligence services from the beginning of 2026; But which features will be paid and how much they will cost is still unclear.

Previously, in the Galaxy S24 Ultra review, we talked in detail about the artificial intelligence capabilities of Galaxy AI; But below we point out the key points.

Circle to search

Most of the artificial intelligence features, such as Circle to search in One UI 6.1 and the Galaxy S24 series, are the result of Google’s cooperation with Samsung; This feature is actually a more efficient version of Google Lens that can be used in a simpler way.

To use Circle to search, you just have to hold your finger on the home button on any page and menu of your phone. In the next step, by drawing a circle around the subject you want or highlighting it, you can get information about the subject using the Google search engine. You can get more information about the subject by typing text or by voice.

Smart Keyboard

A number of artificial intelligence features have been integrated into Samsung Keyboard’s writing assistant, which uses Google’s Jamna language model and LLM. Currently, these features support languages such as French, English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian, and we will probably see Persian language support in the future.

With the artificial intelligence capabilities of the Samsung keyboard, you can translate your chats in applications such as Instagram, WhatsApp, Google/Samsung Messages, Line, Google Chat, Tango, and Signal. You can correct grammar and spelling mistakes before sending the text; But the most attractive feature of this section is the Writing style, which can rewrite your writing based on different tones.

Interpreter

The interpreter application was introduced for the first time in 2023 with the Google Pixel Fold. Now we see the use of this application in the One UI 6.1 user interface, which can be used offline and currently supports the same languages mentioned in the smart keyboard section.

Galaxy AI Transcript Assist

The Interpreter feature is used when you are having a face-to-face conversation with someone who speaks a foreign language. In this situation, the translator translates the voice of you and the other party and shows it as text on the phone screen, which can be useful in many cases.

Live interpreter (phone calls)

Live Translate is a feature that is currently only available in the Samsung phone application and is used to translate people’s voices during phone conversations. In fact, this function translates the voice of the other party, both in text and audio form, so that, according to Samsung, language is not a limitation for people’s communication.

Galaxy AI Live Translate settings
Galaxy AI Live Translate

The live translator function can be used without the need to connect to the Internet or send data to online servers, and all processing is done inside the phone itself; Therefore, you should not worry about your privacy while talking to other people; In addition, you can choose a specific language for each contact so that live translation will be done automatically during the conversation with that person.

Artificial intelligence capabilities in Samsung applications

Samsung’s note application has become smarter than ever in One UI 6.1 and it can be said that it is the best note-taking application at the moment. With the help of artificial intelligence, you can correct grammar and spelling mistakes in your notes and translate them; But the distinctive feature of this program is the ability to summarize and sort notes.

The artificial intelligence in the note application can read your long texts and provide a summary example of it, which is very useful; In addition, with the help of artificial intelligence, irregular notes can be organized. In fact, artificial intelligence automatically formats sentences and paragraphs and considers the title with different colors for them so that the format of your writing is elegant and neat.

Another AI feature in the Samsung Notes app can sort your untitled notes and cover photos and choose a cover image for them, making it easier than ever to find your notes.

Samsung’s voice recording application can also transcribe and even summarize the recorded sounds so that you can use them again in the Notes application.

Similar to the previous services, Samsung’s dedicated browser can summarize or translate different web pages and sites into your preferred language.

Create a background image

Undoubtedly, one of the most interesting and fun parts of the One UI 6.1 user interface is the Generative Wallpapers section. Inside this section, different styles are displayed, and you have to choose one of them. After choosing the style, you need to change the style of the background image to your liking by selecting keywords. In the next step, several images will be created, from which you can choose an option depending on your taste.

Artificial Intelligence in Samsung Gallery

In the One UI 6.1 update, the gallery application offers automatic editing with the help of artificial intelligence, depending on the type of each photo; For example, if the photo is black and white, AI can colorize it. Also, artificial intelligence detects reflections and shadows in images and allows you to remove them within seconds.

With the help of the Generative Edit section, which we have already seen in the Google Pixel 8, you can easily select different objects or people and change their location in the photo; You can even remove them completely. If the image does not have a proper framing, in this section you can frame it with your desired angle so that the artificial intelligence will reconstruct the required pixels in the empty parts for you.

Conclusion

With the addition of artificial intelligence capabilities and functional changes in One UI 6.1, it can be said that the new version of Samsung’s user interface is the most complete Android skin today. The higher frame rate for the new One UI 6.1 animations has made this user interface experience very fast and fluid. The Galaxy AI features are also useful most of the time and are very accurate and will definitely improve over time.

In general, we can say that One UI 6.1 compared to One UI 6.0 is a much bigger update for the Samsung user interface, and its minor and major changes, along with Galaxy AI, will please most Samsung fans.

Screen Mirroring is a technology that allows the screen of your phone to be transferred to the TV screen as it is so that you can view the content on the big screen. The SmartThings app and Smart View feature allow you to quickly and easily connect to your Samsung Smart TV.

To wirelessly connect your phone screen to your TV, your TV needs a Wi-Fi connection. For non-smart TVs, connecting via cable will be an easy and practical method that we will explain below.

With the Smart View feature, you can view your phone’s screen wirelessly on a large TV screen. Follow the steps below to use Smart View on your Samsung phone:

  • First of all, make sure your phone and TV are connected to a Wi-Fi network and VPN is not connected.
  • Now on your phone, swipe down twice to open the Quick Settings panel and select Smart View.
  • If you don’t see Smart View, please move it to the left or right or tap the edit button and then add Smart View.

Connecting Samsung phone to Samsung TV with SmartThings application

SmartThings is a remote control application for Samsung products that can be installed on Android phones and iPhone phones. SmartThings enables automatic connection to most Samsung TVs manufactured from 2016 onwards.

  • Connect your Samsung Smart TV and Samsung phone to a Wi-Fi network.
  • Download and install the SmartThings app on your phone. If you already have the SmartThings app installed, update it.
  • Open the SmartThings app.
  • Tap Add Device.
  • All devices in SmartThings will be displayed. If you can’t see your device, make sure it’s turned on. If it still doesn’t show up, try turning it off and on again and restarting the SmartThings app.
  • Select or scan your TV.

  • To do this, tap on the name of your connected TV at the top of the application and select More Options or the three-dot icon.
  • Select Mirror Screens (Smart View). Make sure your phone is close to the TV to connect successfully.

Connecting a Samsung phone to a Samsung TV with an HDMI converter

Convert HDMI to USB

If you have trouble connecting wirelessly, you can use an HDMI converter to connect your device to your TV. Original Samsung HDMI converters support devices with USB-C ports.

If you’re using an older device without a USB-C port, you may be able to find a compatible interface cable, but functionality cannot be guaranteed.

  • Connect an HDMI cable to the HDMI converter.
  • Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI port of the TV.
  • Connect the HDMI converter to the USB port of your phone.
  • Turn on the TV and change the input to the HDMI port you are using.

Connecting Samsung phone to Samsung TV with Samsung DeX

  • Swipe your phone down twice to open the quick settings menu. Note that this feature may not be available on some phones.
  • Tap the DeX button to activate this feature.
  • Select DeX on the TV or monitor option.
  • Accept the connection request on the TV.
  • Then follow the instructions on the screen. Once completed, the Samsung DeX screen will appear on the target TV.

Note that the function of this function will be different depending on the type of TV for wireless connection. We recommend using Samsung Smart TVs 2019 or newer.

Connecting a Samsung phone to a Samsung TV using Samsung DeX

With Wi-Fi Direct, you can directly connect your phone to the TV without an existing Wi-Fi network. With this, your favorite images and videos will be displayed on the TV screen. Note that both the TV and phone must have Wi-Fi direct capability for this feature to work.

To check whether the Wi-Fi direct feature is equipped on the TV, go to the settings. Now follow the steps below to use Wi-Fi Direct on Samsung TV:

  • First, open the TV menu to enable Wi-Fi Direct. Then go to Network and Wi-Fi Direct.
  • Now activate the phone’s Wi-Fi Direct. To enable Wi-Fi Direct on your Samsung phone, go to Settings, then Connections, enter the Wi-Fi section, tap the three-dot icon at the top, and enable the Wi-Fi Direct option. After scanning, the phone will display a list of available devices. The name of the phone also appears on the TV.
  • Select the device from the list to start the connection. If a connection request is made by the phone, a message will appear on the TV and vice versa. Accept the request to connect the phone to the TV.

Connecting Samsung phone to LG TV

  • Make sure your TV and phone are both connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Select your TV from the list of available devices.

  • Connect the HDMI end to the HDMI port on your TV.
  • Tap “Accept” when the connection request appears on your phone
  • After connecting, your phone screen will be mirrored on the TV screen.

This method is simple and hassle-free to use, especially when wireless options are not available.

Connecting a Samsung phone to a Sony TV

Web browsing with Sony Bravia X90J TV

Fortunately, you can use the same Smart View feature of Samsung phones to connect to Sony TV. Thus, it becomes easy for you to seamlessly connect to any of the devices.

  • Swipe down twice to reveal the Quick Panel.
  • Select the Smart View icon.
  • From there, you should see a list of devices compatible with the display. Click on your Sony TV.
  • You should get a message asking if you are ready to connect. Select “Start Now”.

If your TV does not appear in the list of devices, you need to make sure that the TV is compatible. Note that only Sony Bravia TVs manufactured between 2013-2020 have Screen Mirroring capability.

Connecting a Samsung phone to a Sony TV with a cable

MHL technology provides the possibility of connecting the phone to the Sony TV with a cable. Phones and tablets compatible with this feature can be connected to the TV through an MHL to HDMI cable. If you can’t use wireless to connect your phone to the TV, then a wireless connection and HDMI conversion is another way you will have.

Connecting Samsung phone to Android TV

Snowva SSD-55 55 inch TV from the front view

If you are looking for a wireless connection between your phone and TV, the Smart View feature on Samsung phones is the best way to share data on Android TVs, especially Iranian smart TVs. We have explained the activation method in the above sections.

On the other hand, if your TV is not smart, using cable will help you. As mentioned, you’ll need an HDMI cable and a USB-C to HDMI converter for this. Connect the USB-C end to your phone and then connect an HDMI cable between the converter and your TV. After connecting the converter and cable, the screen of your Samsung phone will appear on the TV.

Connecting a Samsung phone to a TV is not particularly complicated, especially when both devices are in the Android ecosystem. Earlier, we also checked the method of connecting the iPhone to Samsung TV; In addition, you can use the best programs to connect the iPhone to the TV so that more options are available to you.
