One of the common ways to share files with WhatsApp is to create a new WhatsApp group with only one contact and delete them as soon as the group is created. Now that you are the only participant, you can use this chat to send and receive files from any device privately.
To send files from your personal computer, you must first log in to WhatsApp Web from your personal computer and upload the required files in the newly created group chat.
5. How to transfer files from laptop to mobile wirelessly
You can share files wirelessly between your phone and laptop using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi or both.
Share files using Nearby Share
Nearby Share is Android’s main file sharing tool and works with Windows. It’s easy to use, just download and install Nearby Share on your Windows PC, then follow the on-screen instructions to set it up and connect your PC and phone.
You need to make sure that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are set on both devices and you can share up to 500 files at once.
Our guide has more information on using Nearby Share with Windows. You can also informally use Nearby Share with a Mac, though it only lets you send files from your phone to your computer, not the other way around.
Share files using Bluetooth
When you have a few smaller files you need to transfer to your phone, Bluetooth is a great way to go. It is also very easy to set up.
To send files via Bluetooth from your Windows 10 or 11 laptop to your phone, you must first pair the two devices. Go to Settings > Devices and tap the toggle button to turn on Bluetooth. Make sure it is enabled on your phone as well.
Now go to Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth to start scanning . After a short delay, your phone will be displayed. Select it, then click Connect on your PC and Pair on your phone to complete the process.
To share files via Bluetooth, go to Settings > Devices > Send or receive files via Bluetooth > Send files . Then select the file you want to share.
For other platforms, the names of the menu options will be different, but the process is the same. You need to pair first and then you can share. Bluetooth is slower than the other methods we’ve listed, and is best for smaller files and casual use.
Share files using Wi-Fi
When you need to regularly transfer large amounts of data to your phone, you can’t beat Wi-Fi. As long as you connect your phone and laptop to a Wi-Fi network, you can transfer files quickly and securely.
To copy files over Wi-Fi, you need a special app on your phone but nothing extra on your laptop.
We recommend Snapdrop, which is free and requires no registration. It works with any platform – Windows, Mac, Linux or Chrome OS, but it’s very convenient because you don’t need to install it on those devices.
To get started, download and install the Android app from the Google Play Store.
Download: Snapdrop (Free)
Launch the app on your phone and open the Snapdrop page in a desktop browser. As long as both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, they will recognize each other.
To send files from your phone to your laptop or PC:
- Tap anywhere in the app on your phone.
- A file manager will open. Find and tap the file or files you want to send.
- They will start shipping immediately.
- In your laptop’s browser, click Save when prompted to download and save the file .
To send files from laptop to mobile:
- You’ll see an icon for your connected Android device in the middle of your browser’s Snapdrop window. Click on this icon.
- Select the files you want to share, then click OK or Open .
- Files will start copying immediately.
- Tap Save in your phone app to save the files.
More ways to transfer your data
There are more ways to share files from mobile to laptop. If your phone supports them, you can use an SD card or USB flash drive with the On-The-Go cable. Or for more advanced solutions, try FTP with the Wi-Fi FTP Server app or even network attached storage (NAS). By using this option, you share one hard drive with all devices connected to your network.
Transfer files from laptop to mobile
For most people, the methods mentioned above are the best ways to transfer data from your laptop to your Android phone. Some are better for quickly sharing small files and some are great at transferring large amounts of data.
If you want to transfer a large amount of data, we recommend using a USB cable for data transfer. Otherwise, it is better to use one of the wireless sharing methods.
